FREC (First Response Emergency Care), Levels 3 – 5

Course Overview:

This Ofqual regulated pre-hospital care qualification is ideal for those who have a specific responsibility to respond to emergency situations. The qualification is approved by Qualsafe Awards (the UK’s largest Awarding Organisation for first aid qualifications) and is clinically endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh – Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC). The Level 3 Certificate meets the FPHC criteria for descriptor ‘D’ provider on the PHEM Skills Framework.

The life-saving skills taught are particularly suited to security staff, medical response teams, fire and police officers, industrial first aiders, healthcare providers and community responders.

The course content includes:

  •  Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
  • Child and Infant BLS
  • Emergency oxygen administration
  • Bag Valve Mask (BVM) and pocket mask
  • Trauma and catastrophic bleeding
  • Head and spinal injuries

QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF)

The Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (FREC®) is accepted as covering all learning outcomes and assessment criteria contained within the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work qualification. As such this qualification exceeds the HSE’s standard requirements for those acting as a workplace first aider and also covers a number of additional training needs that are often identified in ‘higher risk’ working environments.

This regulated and nationally recognised prehospital care qualification is clinically endorsed by The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care- The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and fulfils the competencies set out in the Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) skills framework. Successful Learners will gain the knowledge, skills and competences needed to deal with a wide range of prehospital care emergencies, such as: managing a patient’s airways, catastrophic bleeding, management of fractures, medical emergencies and more. The QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is one of the few first aid qualifications recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

The QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (QCF)

Qualification is specifically designed for those who want to provide prehospital care to patients requiring emergency treatment. It is ideal for those who are looking to progress their career in the emergency services, ambulance services, event medical sectors and high-risk workplaces. Successful Learners will gain the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to be able to deal with a wide range of prehospital care emergencies, such as: major incidents, fracture immobilisation, sick and injured children, mental health problems and more.

The QA Level 5 Diploma in First Response Emergency and Urgent Care (RQF)

is intended for those who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities to provide prehospital care to patients requiring emergency care at an incident. This qualification is suitable for those who are working within the ambulance (private or NHS) and event medical sectors in roles such as: Ambulance Technician, Medical Technician and Clinicians working within high risk workplaces. The qualification may also be suited to Learners who wish to progress onto a paramedic education pathway.

M is a registered Paramedic with extensive experience working within the military and also commercially on projects covering Iraq, Afghanistan and West Africa. He has significant offshore experience and also has provided medical support to UHNW clients. He has a passion for training and has delivered education packages to government and military clients. With a passion for military acute care it allowed him to climb the ranks to UKSF Squadron Paramedic very quickly and also worked on the SF MERT and the United States Army “DUSTOFF” respectfully. In terms of the delivery of education, M still continues to teach pre-hospital care and CBRNE to some of the world’s most specialised units and governments and carries out medical audits, analysis, planning and intelligence for UNHW clients around the globe.

J is a former military, UK registered Paramedic with over 20 years experience. He has delivered clinical and training services across the world. Specialising in remote, hostile area and expedition medicine, he has successfully delivered services and managed programs for military, government, commercial and UHNW sectors. Since leaving the military “J” continues to be one of the most respected and remembered Squadron Paramedics within UKSF and it’s why he remains a go-to medic for the delivery of bespoke, immersive and realistic medical training programs.
